As I’m waiting for paint to dry (yes, really), here is a few more posts for sunday night pleasure.
City belongs to the people living in it, not the cars that invade the space. We are now in that point, that this sort of thing is needed.

A documentary film by Jack Oatmon.
A look into the hardware hacking community in Montreal, including the Foulab collective. Why are more and more hobbyists experimenting with hacks and circuit bends? What relationship does this imply about consumer society and technological advancement? Is this a real-world analog of ‘user generated content’?

I have this idea that Interaction Design is not very present or recognized in Montreal (my hometown). It is not really true to be honest, I think it’s there and alive somehow, but not called Interaction Design. It’s fun and refreshing to see things like this popping up from back home too. I just wish this was happening 5 years ago. Home sweet home.
PS. Péa, you should check the group out this summer when you go back home.
This is a nicely executed video on design strategy and process (by Design Continuum) that I think you should watch.
Seen on swiss miss.
lights on is an audio visual performance created for the Ars Electronica museum in Linz, Austria. Visuals coded in openframeworks by zachary lieberman, joel gethin lewis and damian stewart (yesyesno).
Remarkable.
A little pricey, but an interesting tool for creating your own mobile platform…
“You know, I could build a better phone than this.” We’ve probably all uttered something to that effect in our past in a fit of frustrated rage — some more than others — but are you ready to put your money where your mouth is? If so, you can now part with some cash and cobble together a bunch of modules to create a do-it-yourself Android phone called FLOW — just be aware that it’s probably not going to solve your troubles.ÂÂ
Giving the commencement address in Philadelphia on Monday, Google CEO Eric Schmidt told graduates to “turn off your computers,” urging the departing students to “discover all that is human around us.” He also tried to assuage students’ fears about the job hunt in the midst of an economic recession, advising them to use the financial turmoil as a source of inspiration and innovation. Those innovators at Google didn’t create a Web empire by trolling Facebook — they did it with their minds, which, incredibly, do not require Wi-Fi access to function.
Found this video of Tamara Munzner via Ben Fry’s (Processing co-founder) blog. It’s mostly not pretty info vis per seâ€â€and it’s really math-heavyâ€â€, but it’s very interesting and insightful to get a glimpse at understanding how to displayâ€â€and interpretâ€â€data.
I find it quite refreshing to get an efficiency-driven, engineer-like no-nonsense approach to displaying information. Beware though, Web 2.0 aficionados, no glossy buttons and fancy gradients here.
*graphically speaking
I’ll personally come and slap every single designer that pushes this sort of stuff.

Found this via Wired UK magazine’s (launch and) May 2009 issue. Pretty interesting idea I find…
