Adamo; or being fashionable with a computer (and no, it ain’t a Mac)

March 18 2009

Looks like Dell is aiming for a new clientele: supermodels and/or metrosexuals. Sweet.

… right.

… right.

My Facebook, My Self

March 16 2009

In a recent interview on the Today Show, Mark Zuckerberg — the young founder of Facebook — observed that the single most distinctive feature of his revolutionary social networking site was its capacity to let users control various degrees of privacy.

I would have listened to more of the interview were it not for my laptop notifying me that I was being invited to chat by someone I went to high school with. For anyone unfamiliar with this practice, Facebook also has a questionable feature displaying everyone who you’ve “friended” who happens to be online while you’re online, which in turn allows them to spontaneously engage you in an online chat. (Even if you’re sitting in your pajamas, watching the Today Show.) Mind you, the sheer fascination of this surprise encounter — this particular guy never uttered a single word to me when I was a teenager — struck me then, as it does now, as remarkably un-private.

Open House, waffles, and cleaning slaves

March 14 2009

As y’all know, it’s the open house tomorrow in UID. The lovely people from Ställverket will be cookin’ waffles for all to eat while visiting our beloved School and facilities.

We tried to get our workshop semi-sparkling today, and, well, it is semi-sparkling (kind of). Also, Camille set up a few interactive stuff to… well, interact with.

See you there tomorrow, and please, IxD people, send us projects to show to the locals who’ll be visiting us!

Food from George Clooney’s sweat

March 13 2009

Seriously, PETA wants to create tofu that is flavoured with George Clooney’s sweat and they call it CloFu. “CloFu could make your taste buds and your heart melt. Of course, what’s even better is that after everyone gets a piece of George and realizes how delicious tofu truly is, diets will be revolutionized.”, says the PETA blogger Liz Graffeo.

Great! I’m actually happy about this. Food is one of the areas where biotech can be a real future player, not just making GM crops or hybrid fruits like grapples, pluots, lematos or tangelos.

(Vimeo) Video Channel for us

March 13 2009

The “prototyping-hot-corner” (Pepe, Roberto and me) were uploading quite a lot of videos to Vimeo lately. So I created a Vimeo channel for us where all our videos are at one place. We thought it might be cool to have place where all videos from our Interaction Design group could be collected. Not sure if Vimeo is the right place, but I like it (much more than Youtube). What do you think about it? I remember all the videos of the experience prototyping workshop Camille took… it’s hard to find them now. Also we could create a permant link (that always shows the latest video) here on this blog.

Anyway… if you have your own Vimeo account, feel free to add me to your contacts and I’ll give you permissions to add videos to the Umea Institute of Design channel.
