Hi all,
Just a quick note to let you know that I’m organizing and ordering Arduino kits for Interaction Students (or anyone at UID). Our plan is to stock these kits in the Interaction Lab downstairs and sell them at a discounted price. This way you can play and mess around with Arduino from day one of the program and you don’t have to borrow one from the lab for regular projects. I feel it’s good for the students (cheap Arduino), for the program (you start experimenting early on) and for the lab (we don’t loose too many modules over time).
The final price isn’t fixed yet but it should be around 200-300 sek I think for a full kit:
Arduino Diecimila Board
USB cable
Breadboard
Selection of LEDs, buttons, potentiometer, piezo buzzer
Bunch of wires, resistors, capacitors, transistors
They should be available early September.
Let me know if you think this is good or not. I’m really open to feedback and suggesions.

Sugar developers have put together a really nice guide how to design for the OLPC.Most of the operating systems have this guideline and you can read them online, but they are mostly non-sense. You can find them here.ÂÂ
Russian hackers have managed to create a virus that can mimic human behavior and learn from the users. It appears on websites as a woman seeking a man for dating. It collects the personal information of the wannabe dater, which the hackers can then use for identity fraud. Because people are so used to viruses, they now know how to avoid them, but this virus can emulate a real person so perfectly, that many have fallen prey to this treacherous fembot. And even love-hungry Mac users are not safe anymore.Read more.ÂÂ

Fingerprint scanners are a dime a dozen these days. But how about devices which can literally grant access by the way you walk, the way you talk, the way you type or write, bite or grip. Here is a chart of state of the art biometric applications, including futuristic devices like portable Game Boys which are ominously called HIIDE (handheld interagency identity detection).
Wordle is a toy for generating “word clouds†from text that you provide. The clouds give greater prominence to words that appear more frequently in the source text. You can tweak your clouds with different fonts, layouts, and color schemes. The images you create with Wordle are yours to use however you like. You can print them out, or save them to the Wordle gallery to share with your friends.
Hi all,
Tinker.it is offering a very nice workshop this summer about Arduino + web. The course will give an introduction to Arduino Ethernet shield and the new Arduino Ethernet. It will also cover some web APIs (Twitter, Flickr, others) that are interesting to connect to hardware like the Arduino.

July 19th-20th 2008 in London (UK)
They have great student price and you also get an Ethernet Arduino shield to keep at the end.
You can read all about it and sign up at this url: http://tinkerit.eventwax.com/h3-arduino–web
I attended to of their advanced workshops in May and I can say they are very good and professional. You will learn a lot from the Arduino’s Masters!

Since not much is happening here during the summer I thought I’d post this video. Nicley done and with an important topic.
