In the past, people stayed in one place or area, because it was far to get to other city and country by themselves. So the people staying in one place know many things each other about them even private information.
In the present, it is getting shorter journey time between a country and a country by developing transportation. people can get to another country in easy way by advanced transportation such as a airplane, a car, etc. So it is getting more chance for them to meet unknown people and get unknown places.
So people want to know where the place they want is and how to communicate with the people in new place they visit.
Square is center and entrance of a city. Many people come and meet on the square. Some people come to the square as visitors or the others come there as tenants. So I can have many chances to see various people. I visited and observed the people on the square in Umea 3 times by once a week which are before “Easter” , “Easter” and after “Easter”. The behavior of people are very dependent on weather, day and time. The people tended not to sit on the chair but tend to pass on the street in cloud and strong windy day. On the other hand, they tended to sit on the chair and communicate each other for a long time in clear and warm day.
Various things that people did and diverse events happened were there.
After visiting the square, I and Linda who is my group did classify the people and things we observed. These are 4 main keywords of what we observed on the square.
People have own thought and perspective about same issue. The thought and perspective would be different by time and location of them. Therefore they like to share their thought with other people to puzzle them out. They can share their memory in communictiy site such as Facebook, My space and so on. It 'however' is insufficient and limited method for the people who want to extend their relationship. So what I want to do is making device help people find someone communicate and share each own memory in real world.
People don`t want
to share private memory first. They usually share it with someone they used to know. So it is necessary for me to
make people share public memory first such as favorite place and thing or information about place. And when
someone become friend for people by step, people share their private memory.
To decide which type of device is more appro
priated for sharing memory and to get more
idea about way of sharing memory, I had brain
storming with some people I invited.
First, I suggested 3 different types are bracelet,
necklace and phone to them in brainstorming.
They tried to use 3 things in different way. They
prefer to use bracelet type more than the others.
Second, we shared many idea about way of sh aring memory. I found interesting ideas are “using vibration for notification” and “building own social network”.
To check appropriate size and screen position of the device. I made very simple prototype and tested a few people. After that, I resized it and developed interface.
Through 1st user test, I changed menu struc
ture. And I add more contents and sequence
for entering new area and adding a friend.
Here is the prototype for me to figure out vibration is suitable for people to notify someone comimg to them. The prototype is consisted of distance sensor which can detect how far it is by number of value and vibration sensor which can be operated by number of value from distance sensor. “Arduino kit” is used for them to be worked.
This device has 2 main parts. One is navigation. Another is sharing memory part. Frist, in navigation part, As you see, upper screen of the device is main screen. displays locations of people around you by graphic and lower screen shows how far peoples are from the user(Red arrow matk on the upper screen is for user) and who each person is and so on. Second, in sharing memory part , Upper screen shows pictures as memory people want to share. And lower part shows list of pictures.
