This app lets you scan barcodes off DVD boxes, then connects to a computer in your home, and downloads the movie via bittorrent. Great!

That’s right! with the help prof. Henderson, the UmeÃ¥ Institute of Design student built this wonderful prototype of a cloning device. It succesfully clones pins and in the future maybe meat.
A week late (for us IxD 1 students), but check out the visual translations of these designer-ish designer objects done by Michael C. Place (Build). Purrrrty good.
Note the “Objectified†word in there somewhere…
Big brains talking about big ideas. Great reading, listening, watching stuff.
And also you can participate, just submit your idea.
Especially for us Interaction Designers, I can see a bunch of stuff relating to some of  the degree projects. (*cough* Rahul, Vito)
These were made in 1999. Let’s see how accurate he was.
(Click on Read more, it’s a looong post.)
These french guys create music using toys and bending circuits. Perfect for the Sound Project of next year.
Myspace “…electronic record that has no midi, no sampling, no synthesizers, no laptops, in fact no conventional instruments of any kind…”
Some cool visuals made using VVVV.

The tittle says pretty much what it is. I like the idea of using cardboard and conductive pain for creating a nice object. Check these short videos and I also recommend to check out the blog (nice and clear)

Here’s what happens, when evil corporations don’t do concept videos, but storytellers. Much better.

Overall, wages in the creative professions have kept pace with inflation, but shown little growth beyond that — with the primary exception of Interaction Design, which has increased dramatically in pay since 2006. This keeps with anecdotal indications that IxD professionals have become extremely sought after, in part due to the lucrative and growing mobile devices market.
I guess it’s a great time to be an Interaction Designer. Graduate students can and should be picky about what they want to do after the summer!

In addition to the apple style video of Microsoft posted before, look at this non-shinny approaches. Another way of showing future??
Augmented reallity demo made at University of Oulu, Finland.
Interesting retro-futuristic interface made in year 2000.
and another example from University of Berkley, USA
There is some discussions going on here in class about this Mircosoft Office Labs Vision video. I was wondering how useful these future concept videos are… sometimes I have the feeling they are to slick and actually I don’t see a lot of really revolutionary ideas in these videos. It’s mostly ideas that were around for years put into a nice looking video with rich and beautiful people in it.
I think companies did this kind of videos since the 50s or 40s. It’s always intersting to look at these past future concepts and see how much they are driven by technology of that time, and not technology of the future.
Paelo Future is a great blog about these past futures. “A look into the future that never was“
Here is an interesting video from 1988 “The Electronic Home” its mostly about internet on your TV… though they don’t call it “internet” yet.
The future is clean, uncluttered, and full of wipe transitions. I’m waiting for the next vision: Interaction Design in the Post-Human World.
Cynicism aside, there are a lot of ideas here and it’s worth taking a look. You can watch an extended version here.
I just stumbled upon this really inspiring website. I looks like a magazine… tons of amazing pictures (gui, art, architecture, design, science, visualizations, 3d, nature…). Not a lot of context, just really inspiring. Should help when you are stuck in your head: spacecollective.org/gallery
other stimulative websites for random browsing:
and if nothing helps and your are completely stuck in your degree work: Cornify
At FH Würzburg they have created a prototype of a much softer type of touchscreen , which they´ve labelled impress. It works with the parameters position and time like other touch screens as well, but in addition to that, it reacts, above all, on the intensity of pressure. What this adds to sketch capabilities is f.ex the ability to model in 3d space with pure gestures, although at a more basic level. It´s also quite interesting how this affects the interface when it is used as an instrument for composing sounds, as it adds gravity in more than just flat space.
“The user can merge in and collaborate with technology more than ever. He can squeeze out information and fly through rooms, he can form three-dimensional and put objects in motion by deforming the surface. Four short applications allow an insight into an absolutely new world of deeply sensitive and intuitive interaction possibilities.
Created with Arduino and Processing.”

The author has submitted some useful documentation as well.
In the first spime post, I mentioned that my friend keeps losing her keys and wants to call her keys. Well, lo and behold, now you can!
Ever since human beings have had possessions, we’ve been losing them – leaving our flint axes under rocks, misplacing our spears in woolly mammoths. As we’ve evolved so have our methods of finding these lost items. Now, with the Find it All Key Finder our keys, wallets and phones can actually find themselves!
Unlike other systems that are either a receiver or a transmitter – the Find it All Key Finder tags are both, so if you’ve got one, it will find the others for you. Clever huh?
The set consists of 2 sturdy key chain tags and 1 very robust flat tag, so you can attach one key chain to your keys, the other to your phone and pop the flat tag in your wallet or purse
This is so SkyMall, Ubicomp has happened finally happened.
