ImageQuilts is a nice tool for assembling and collecting images from Google Image searches. From the master Edward Tufte and Andy Schwartz. It’s a Google Chrome app available for free. Very useful for putting together mood boards quickly.

TOIP – taste over internet protocol

November 23 2013

“We have found noninvasive electrical and thermal stimulation of the tip of the tongue successfully generates the primary taste sensations”.

The team is also working on a spin-off called a digital lollipop that will give the effect of a continuous sugar hit – but without sugar. For taste messaging they have developed TOIP – taste over internet protocol. This is a data format that makes it easy to transmit information on how to recreate the different tastes via the electrode.

Now I’m quite curious to check out well this works! I could see this as the next CATCHPA: lick this UI and confirm the flavour to activate your account :-)

inFORM – Interacting With a Dynamic Shape Display

November 13 2013

inFORM is a Dynamic Shape Display that can render 3D content physically, so users can interact with digital information in a tangible way. inFORM can also interact with the physical world around it, for example moving objects on the table’s surface. Remote participants in a video conference can be displayed physically, allowing for a strong sense of presence and the ability to interact physically at a distance.

MOSS

November 11 2013

Magnets, motors and robots, a combination that is hard to beat!!! Check out this new platform called MOSS by some friends in the Sketching in Hardware community.

“MOSS is a brand new robot construction system from Modular Robotics. It was designed, prototyped and engineered over the last two and a half years. Building with MOSS is incredibly fun and easy thanks to an intuitive, magnetic construction system.”

DURR

DURR: A shivering unisex bracelet that investigates our perception of 5 minutes.

A really nice project (and great videos) by the two folks at Skrekkøgle. Its haptic qualities are simple/very basic, but it’s a start :-)

Autographer

November 11 2013

Autographer, a new release for the SenseCam wearable camera, originally developed by Microsoft Research Cambridge. It’s not very cheap, but it looks very well built, and supported with decent apps and software offering. It’s nice to see a research project like this making it to a product of its own.

Box, from BOT & DOLLY

September 25 2013

“Box” explores the synthesis of real and digital space through projection-mapping on moving surfaces. The short film documents a live performance, captured entirely in camera. Bot & Dolly produced this work to serve as both an artistic statement and technical demonstration. It is the culmination of multiple technologies, including large scale robotics, projection mapping, and software engineering. We believe this methodology has tremendous potential to radically transform theatrical presentations, and define new genres of expression. (from their website)

Taking projection mapping to another level!!!
