Remote.js is a super slick way to wirelessly communicate between devices without the use of additional hardware or a middle man. Instead it relies on tones: Applications can communicate with one another by literally emitting tones at different frequencies. The receiving computer listens for that tone (via standard microphone input) and then reacts accordingly. No web sockets, nodejs, or any other middle man required.
The Company Creatables launched a Kickstarter on their project Strawbees the other day.
It is a set of small components that enables you to build flexible structures using straws or other suitable materials.
Their Kickstarter video shows a few things they have made in their workshops. Also encouraging kids to discover.
These are some images from their Kickstarter to illustrate some of the things they show in the video.
Company Web for more projects of theirs, including Ass Savers for bike enthusiasts

Vision Gran Turismo is a project in which the world’s automotive manufacturers, carrozzerias , and other global brands develop and announce concept cars for Gran Turismo. This is a present for Gran Turismo and its fans commemorating the 15th anniversary of the series.
I find it fascinating to see how much effort is put into crafting vehicles for the game, and how close the game is getting to real life driving through audio visual channels. Still not the real thing, but getting closer from new angles (new cars firs available in the game engine).

Friendshippr is a social utility for friend to friend shipping. It is not a shipping service provider or a shipping company. It’s simply a platform for you to connect with your friends for the purpose of shipping.
Sounds like something I’d use.

This video has been circulating around the web for a while, it shows researchers at Georgia Institute of Technology experimenting with touch in robotic arms. One aspect being a type of sensitive skin (albeit crude in it’s present form).
A few things aside, what I find particularly interesting is the reaction from Henry in his first ‘skin to skin’ meeting with the robotic arm as it helps him put on a blanket. It starts at about 00:35, here is an excerpt.
“With the touch sensitive skin I can feel the robot keeping contact forces low but still in constant pursuit of its goal. I felt immediately that it wouldn’t hurt me. But rather it seemed aware of my presence as it went about its business.”

Vytas SunSpiral and Adrian Agogino at NASA Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, Calif. and their colleagues suspect there might be a way to make solar system exploration much simpler and cheaper, by embedding science instruments inside a flexible, deformable robotic exoskeleton. This spherical structure might be able to land without assistance, absorbing most of the shock of impact itself and so saving mass needed for more complex landing gear. Once the spacecraft has reached an extraterrestrial surface, it could use this same structure to roll around without wheels, propelling itself by making slight tweaks to its shape.
The Cubli is a 15 × 15 × 15 cm cube that can jump up and balance on its corner. Reaction wheels mounted on three faces of the cube rotate at high angular velocities and then brake suddenly, causing the Cubli to jump up. Once the Cubli has almost reached the corner stand up position, controlled motor torques are applied to make it balance on its corner. In addition to balancing, the motor torques can also be used to achieve a controlled fall such that the Cubli can be commanded to fall in any arbitrary direction. Combining these three abilities — jumping up, balancing, and controlled falling — the Cubli is able to ‘walk’.
