Connecting Series, short films exploring trends in interaction and experience design

Released in May 2014: Why do we make? Connecting: Makers examines how the connected world is changing the nature of creativity. When everyone is a maker, new possibilities emerge, but with them come new responsibilities about digital transparency, cultural awareness, and the role of the designer.

Hacking Balance

May 14 2014

I saw this a couple of years ago. Quite a nice example of hacking our senses. It would be interesting to explore what it would be like to link electronic sensors to senses in live situations or pre-emptive/guiding systems.

The world’s playlist (?)

April 29 2014

Ever wondered what the (social media) world is listening to right now?
streamWatcher screenshot

streamWatcher started out as a research project scrobbling posts of people concerning the music they listen to. Turns out they can predict what the charts will show in a few weeks time. Just a tiny example of the uses of BigData analysis. But also its own downfall?!

How can we avoid or counter echo-chamber effects. How does this site affect what people listen to? What do the pattern-recognition algorithms do to how we see the world? Who writes them?

What tab grabs your interest? NOW, HOT! or Unexpected? What tab would you add?

Gravity

March 30 2014

Nice hardware sketching supporting the concept and development of this project.

Description from from the Vimeo page:
Gravity is a tool for creatives to quickly sketch their ideas in 3D space using immersive augmented reality.

A pen and a pad specifically designed for sketching in the augmented environment. Free from any screen or computer, Gravity allows you to focus on what really matters, developing your ideas in an intuitive way.

As you start to draw, objects will take shape in front of you. Through the landing pad controls, you can adjust the plane in which you sketch, giving volume to your creation. With augmented reality glasses, Gravity reinvents how you and your collaborators visualize and contribute to each other’s ideas.

The project started with a strong belief: the tools that are commonly used for drawing, designing and making things in 3D limit people’s ability to bring their ideas to reality. Through numerous prototypes, tests and iterations, we created Gravity as a simple and engaging tool that will shape a new wave of 3D creation.
