Occupy Flash

November 19 2011

A group of anonymous developers have launched an occupy-alike campain against adobe’s flash player. They claim the flash player is dead, and try to achieve a quicker introduction of it’s replacement, HTML5.

Are we there  yet?

A lot of people, including myself, are pretty enthusiastic about the announced death of the flash player. On the other hand, if you want to do audio, multimedia capture or other nifty integration with software and hardware at the moment, there isn’t simple alternatives out there just yet. You either have to use native libraries that are platform specific, java or other plugins, or patch together some pretty advanced javascript calls. Flash player has its share of issues and caveats, but it’s been allowing things beyond HTML/CSS for many years, with relative simplicity.

Maybe it’s time to start using and teaching HTML5 at UID. Who is up for it?

I agree. What I also really like is the easy way flash allows you to export to standalone programs (.exe/.app). But yeah, I would like to learn some HTML5. definitely
