MAEMO OS
Maemo is the opensource system that the new Nokia N900 will be running. I hope it works as good as it looks. Completely different philosophy if we compare it to Apple. Everything open: hack and use the device, do whatever you want.

According to http://www.whatdoestheinternetthink.net the N900 94.5% positive, where as the is only 30.1% positive. Gotta say that there isn’t too many results yet for N900. It is expensive, though. Maemo is great other than Processing not running on it. (probably would, but I’m too lazy to figure out how.)
I hope it works better than the N97. Just because of their openness compared to Apple and all the App validation stuff they do deserve it.
If it is as good as it seems, I’d definitely change my iPhone for one of these. Anyways, this is just a stunning promo, but the real footage on youtube still looks really good.
BTW, where are you now Mikko? Already working?
The soundtrack feels very Daft Punkish.
Maemo 5/N900 is ok (not jaw dropping) but it is all open. It is really like a full linux box, but in a mobile device. I have to say it is quite impressive to have so much desktop-like applications and libraries available directly on a mobile device. Will this be enough to convice users to drop 500 euros for it, it remains to be seen.
While I was at Tinker.it this month, I saw how much you can you fiddle and dig in the guts of the device/OS. There are still a lot of flaws and things to improve, but if you know you way around a computer, you can make this device do whatever you want!
I’ll try to get one for the Interaction Workshop. We already have its older brothers: a N700 and two N810.
Maybe we could brainstorm all together and submit something to the PUSH N900 website. The deadline is the 11st of October and it matches quite a lot with the Experience prototyping course. It might be too complex for us, maybe it’s better to work with NADA and the iPhone SDK, but it looks so powerful it does worth a try.
By the way, we got linked in their website amongst Engadget, we’re a reference! haha
