TOIP – taste over internet protocol

November 23 2013

“We have found noninvasive electrical and thermal stimulation of the tip of the tongue successfully generates the primary taste sensations”.

The team is also working on a spin-off called a digital lollipop that will give the effect of a continuous sugar hit – but without sugar. For taste messaging they have developed TOIP – taste over internet protocol. This is a data format that makes it easy to transmit information on how to recreate the different tastes via the electrode.

Now I’m quite curious to check out well this works! I could see this as the next CATCHPA: lick this UI and confirm the flavour to activate your account :-)

Ha you beat me to it! I was just about to post this!

I can only imagine people walking down the street wearing google glasses in front of their eyes and electrodes sticking out of their tongues!
