inFORM – Interacting With a Dynamic Shape Display

November 13 2013

inFORM is a Dynamic Shape Display that can render 3D content physically, so users can interact with digital information in a tangible way. inFORM can also interact with the physical world around it, for example moving objects on the table’s surface. Remote participants in a video conference can be displayed physically, allowing for a strong sense of presence and the ability to interact physically at a distance.

It is really more a display than something to be touched and interacted with. It must be very noisy with all these sliders. Technical realization: 10/10, Tangible qualities 1/10 (judging from the video, in reality it might better, but I assume worst!)

I agree on the comment from Camille, at the moment most of the applications presents it as a display.

In regards to physical presence and interaction over distance, I am not so sure I consider it an interaction, more as a monologue in some form of physical presence, i.e. one part is completely reliant upon visual cues to know what he is actually doing. I miss the exchange in it’s current state. And although it’s currently limited to certain axes, I find the fluidity interesting compared to other mimicking solutions such as robotic arms.
