INTOINO

November 26 2012

Intoino is a mobile App (iOS and Android) that can talks wirelessly to Arduino boards. From the website: “Tell your Arduino what to do with INTOINO i-Codes (small Arduino Apps) and you’ll see action coming true: no code, no programming skills.”

At first sight, the drag&drop interface with i-Codes looks a little limiting. But there might be a lof of customization features possible in the final release? I’m curious how this will turn out!

I find it funny that people go to great pain to make a supposedly simple drag and drop programming interface for electronics, and then they demo their offering with a crazy solderless breadboard setup. Look at that circuit, this is a quite advanced layout with barebone components and a lot of routing.

IMO learning about electronics at the hardware level is more challenging than learning coding, generally. So no matter how simple the programming can get, you still have to connect/wire/setup the hardware right :-)

To be consistent with the whole “simple” idea, this Intoino should be demoed with a standard Arduino board I think.

I agree, often when prototypes go beyond the level of plugging in/out sensors and actuators, the hardware setup can still become the biggest hurdle to overcome.

On their website they also show a picture of some type of wireless dongle (the “bulb”), prop eliminating the need for a wifi shield or ethernet breakout board. Could that be a plug&play solution? The startup started making this only a few months back, so maybe that thing still needs quite some development..

Anyhow I am fascinated by that tight breadboard wiring effort. Maybe it’s an Italian aesthetics thing?

This might look better application … that was the prototype :)
